Why Some People describe American Culture as a "salad Bowl"

In the 1960s, 103 ethnic groups and 173 indigenous consist of a total of more than 200 ethnic units in the United States. The United States was no longer a "melting pot of nations", but  become a "museum of nationalities". Immigrants from several continents and oceans have maintained their own languages and cultures for generations. When mulling the issue of acceptance or rejection of these people from the concept of "mainstream culture," Murray suggested in 1976 that "the concept of 'cultural melting pot' doesn't seem to be working with them." America is already a giant "salad bowl."
In particular, Americans usually eat high-fat and high-calorie fried food, such as hamburgers, fried onion rings, fried chicken legs and so on, so Americans particularly like to eat lettuce salad, so the annual demand for salad bowls is particularly large!
